International Volunteer Day
This day celebrates the efforts of those who have made an important contribution to society by giving their time as volunteers. The United Nations has invited governments and organisations in all countries to undertake and promote activities each year on 5 December to thank the volunteers and to stimulate a greater awareness of their contribution.

International Day of Disabled Persons
The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 3 December as the International Day of Disabled Persons. The Day was initially proclaimed to commemorate the anniversary of the General Assembly's adoption of the World Programme of Action concerning Persons with Disabilities. The Programme aimed to promote understanding about disability issues and to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integrating disabled persons in every aspect of political, social economic and cultural life.

Universal Children's Day
The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child addresses the rights of children and youth under the age of 18. It recognises their basic human rights and gives them additional rights to protect them from harm. The Convention's 54 articles cover everything from a child's right to be free from exploitation, to the right to his or her own opinion and the right to education, health care, and economic opportunity.
National Water Week
National Water Week (NWW) is designed to assist the community in understanding how to take action to protect and conserve our precious water resources and habitats. NWW creates large scale local awareness of community initiatives that generate long-term behaviour change for the protection, rehabilitation and improvement of streams, wetlands, waterways, beaches, and estuaries.
