Knowledge is power, and in the sharing of this power lies the secret to a truly enlightened world society. One organisation based in India is offering a wealth of knowledge to be shared among the global community.

EduGreen - Environmental Information Hub

EduGreen is an environmental information hub for schools

In a country with over 1 billion people, the young adults of India are undoubtedly facing significant environmental and developmental challenges.  Indian innovation led by organisations like TERI (The Energy and Research Institute), are connecting young people with research and learning grounded in these challenges.  Established in 1974, TERI is now recognised as a leading source of scientifically-based knowledge and approaches to combat the challenges of sustainable living).

TERI provides current environmental information through their website called EduGreen.  Not only is there information about specific environment-related events throughout India, but students can research and learn about a wide range of issues facing the global community as well.

TERI is an excellent starting point for research into environment and development issues that will encourage your students to consider the perspectives of the 'majority' world and specifically one of the globes most populous nations.  The environmental dictionary is an excellent source with a comprehensive list of environmental words, phrases and concepts that are clearly defined.  EduGreen also allows visitors to explore various topics on the following environmental issues:

Each section not only provides insights into sustainability issues on a global scale, but also highlights Indian-specific constraints and suggestions for conservation measures.  Various multimedia learning activities such as puzzles, quizzes, poems and stories that students can participate in are found here as well.

EduGreen allows for the submission of environment-related questions, and there are plans for a live chat forum where students can meet to discuss relevant topics.
