University hopefuls in Victoria find out today about first round university place offers. New education trends are emerging with more students enrolling in environment related courses this year.

The Deputy Directory of Information at Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC), Suzanne Connelly says some new trends have been emerging amongst students selected areas of study.

Applicants for nursing and education university courses have been of a higher quality and more students are studying courses related to the environment this year.

Ms Connelly says it is possible the growing focus on climate change is encouraging more people to take up environmental studies.

She says increased enrollments in environment areas are also linked to the new course structure at Melbourne University. There appears to have been a  transfer from some of the engineering courses across to the environment courses, though this may be related to the implementation of the "Melbourne model" where some engineering courses have been consumed by the new environments new generations course.

If your students are interested in studying or working in environmental areas, the Environmental Jobs Network has produced a Guide to Environmental Careers in Australia. The Guide provides essential assistance to students, graduates and career advisors interested in environmental careers in Australia. You can download the Guide (as a pdf file) for free from their website.
