| Description: | Developed as part of the Lessons from Teachers project, this case study incorporates a narrative from visual arts teachers Canny Kinloch and Melanie Evans from Shepherds Park Education and Training Unit, Wagga Wagga and a Stage 5 unit of work developed by Paul Lawrence, Elizabeth Macarthur High School. Lessons from Teachers case studies include a unit of work and a teacher narrative, where experienced teachers share their reflections on teaching their particular sustainability education unit. These teachers discuss how sustainability issues can be integrated into their subject area, the way they approach teaching the unit and the highlights and challenges they have encountered. The original visual arts unit was developed by Canny and Mel for students at Life Skills level. To make the unit more widely applicable Paul developed a Stage 5 (Year 10) unit on relief printmaking. In this unit students investigate sustainability issues as a source of ideas for artmaking with the form of relief printmaking. Students study a range of artists and artworks to develop their understanding of artmaking practice, the frames and conceptual framework. As a response to their investigations of sustainability in their own world, students create posters to make an impact on an audience. Students gain experience in curating their own exhibition in the real and virtual world. |
